AS/NZS ISO 9606.1:2017 Trade Welding Certificate
Details
The AS/NZS ISO 9606.1:2017 is the latest welder qualification test.
This standard now requires welders to make more than one test piece should they require an all position qualification range. In addition, fillet welds require a separate test piece as well, unless a certain joint prep is used for a butt weld.
The length of the test piece has been reduced from 300mm down to 200mm; however we elect to use 250mm length plates to enable a macro test, prior to radiographic testing.
Validation is no longer required every two years, as a successful candidate will now earn a three year certification, with the option of revalidation every two years upon volumetric testing (ultrasonic or radiographic) of a similar joint on a production piece.

Confirmation & Revalidation
AS/NZS ISO 9606.1:2017 Certification is valid for up to 3 years’ subject to 6 monthly confirmations by a responsible person (employer / welding coordinator / examiner or examining body). This means the welder is observed welding as per the welding procedure given on the welder test data sheet. At the end of the 3 year period certification must be re-validated by an Approved Examiner (Welding Academy).
Why is it Revalidated
The reason for the 6 month re-validation is to ensure the welder is regularly welding to that procedure during their regular employment.
