Step 1: Organise your Student Visa and immigration requirements
Applying for a Student Visa
If you wish to study in New Zealand you must have a valid student visa. The Government of New Zealand issues student visas for full time study on the understanding that you have sufficient funds for study and living expenses for the duration of your stay in New Zealand. There are regulations that must be met before a student visa can be issued and these vary from country to country. Information about how to apply for your student visa can be obtained from your Immigration Agent. Student visas can take significant time to issue, please ensure that you leave sufficient time to obtain your visa.

Keeping and Understanding a Student Visa

Finances
You must maintain enough money to pay for tuition and living expenses for the duration of your stay in New Zealand.
Student Visa Conditions
Student visas are granted subject to a number of mandatory and discretionary conditions. International students are required to comply with these conditions while studying in New Zealand.
Academic Progress
Students must complete their Level 3 course with in the 20 week time allocation for the course, before embarking on the Level 4 course. The Level 4 course must be completed within the 20 week time allocation for the course. If Taking the 40 Week course both qualifications must be completed within this time frame to pass. Failure to achieve this will lead to students being “at risk” of not completing the programme within the expected duration as stated in your offer letter and the Confirmation of Enrolment.
Attendance
International students must attend at least 90% of all scheduled classes. If illness or personal problems prevent you from maintaining 90% attendance at classes during the semester you must seek advice from your Tutor as soon as possible.
Providing your contact details in New Zealand
Students must advise the Welding Academy of your home address and phone number in New Zealand within seven (7) days of arriving in New Zealand. Also, if you change your address or phone number during your stay in New Zealand, you must advise the Welding Academy within seven days.

Application Criteria for this programme (International Students):
Health and travel insurance while studying in NZ is important to avoid unwanted, high costs relating to medical care and life events.
The Welding Academy requires all enrolled international students to have approved health and travel insurance for the duration of their enrolment (regardless of their visa type). This is a requirement under the NZQA Code of Pastoral Care of Domestic Tertiary and International Learners 2021.
The Welding Academy recommends getting insurance with Orbit Protect Insurance.

To enrol, complete the Application to Enrol form and Medical form available via the Contact page of the Welding Academy’s website, and submit required documents (e.g., passport, academic certificates). Once accepted, you’ll receive a Letter of offer needed for your student visa application. It’s recommended to apply early, as places fill quickly.

Yes, you must obtain a Student Visa from Immigration New Zealand ( https://www.immigration.govt.nz/ ) or have the correct Visa conditions to allow full-time study. We recommend you use a licensed immigration advisor to help with visa approval (https://www.iaa.govt.nz/ ). Processing times vary, so apply at least 3 months in advance of the course start date.
